Bike Packing Journey

Bike packing is a form of adventure cycling where you use a bicycle to carry all of your necessary gear and equipment for an extended trip, often in wilderness or off-road environments. There are different ways to approach bike packing, but here are some general steps to get started:

1. Choose a destination: Decide where you want to go and what type of terrain you want to ride on. Research the area to determine the best routes, camping options, and any permits or regulations you need to be aware of.

2. Select your gear: You will need a bike that is suitable for off-road riding, as well as gear to carry your supplies. This includes a frame bag, handlebar bag, saddle bag, and possibly a backpack or panniers. You’ll also need a tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment, and clothing appropriate for the weather and terrain.

3. Plan your route: Determine your daily mileage goals and where you’ll be camping each night. Make sure to factor in the availability of water, food, and resupply points.

4. Test your gear: Before setting out on a long trip, it’s important to test your gear and make sure everything fits and functions properly. Take a short overnight trip close to home to make sure you have everything you need and that your gear is comfortable and functional.

5. Set out on your adventure: Once you have everything planned and packed, it’s time to hit the road! Remember to be flexible and adapt to changing weather or terrain conditions, and always prioritize safety and leave no trace principles.

THIS IS A SHORT STORY OF MR.SONAM PHUNTSHO WHO DID A BIKE PACKING TRIP FROM EXTREM EAST TO NORTH AND ALL THE WAY TILL SOUTH.

Bike packing in Bhutan is a challenging and rewarding adventure due to the country’s mountainous terrain, high elevations, and unpredictable weather. Covering approximately 1000 km in 10 days may sound easy, but it requires careful planning and time management, as Bhutan is a landlocked, mountainous country with short daylight hours.

Riding alone with a backpack from the extreme south of the country, starting at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level and reaching up to 4000 meters, can be a daunting task. The vertical uphill and thrilling downhill rides, coupled with challenging weather, make it even more adventurous.

Camping in the middle of nowhere is less challenging as water is freely available everywhere. However, it is important to be well-prepared with appropriate gear and clothing for the weather conditions.

Riding in traffic is relatively easy in Bhutan due to the strict traffic laws set by the Traffic Division of Bhutan. This helps to ensure safety and a smooth riding experience.

The stunning views of Bhutan are worth the effort of the challenging climbs. There are various points that offer breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys. If you are up for a challenging adventure and want to experience the beauty of Bhutan, then bike packing is definitely a great option.
